Electrical Worker renewals are changing

The Electrical Workers Registration Board issued this today:

"Dear electrical worker,

As we mentioned in the December 2018 Electron we are changing the timing of electrical worker (EW) licence renewals so that there won’t be a 2-yearly rush where all EW’s have to renew their practising license at the same time.

Instead, the renewals will be spread out over a rolling 2-year period, with each EW’s renewal date falling due on a particular month based on their date of their first registration.

We are going to shift you onto this new renewal schedule when you renew your license in the coming June 2019 relicensing round.

We will do this by customising the duration of the license you’ll get in June. The duration of the June license will be quite short for some EW’s, and longer for others – depending on the year and month you first registered.

What this means for you:

  • You need to ensure that we have the correct contact details for you so you receive the right notifications for this upcoming renewal round
  • You will need to apply to renew your practising license between 1st April and 30th June 2019, as you normally would.
  • The license you are issued will have a customised duration, so that your next renewal after this one will fall due in the month allocated to you, based on the date you first registered.
  • The fee for your license will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, depending on the duration of your license. Please note, the new fees structure which was introduced in January 2019 will apply. Read more information on the our website.
  • After this initial transitional phase in the June 2019 round, your subsequent renewals will occur every 2 years.

Since the licenses we issue in the June 2019 round will be shorter than usual for many EW’s, we are offering a simplified renewal process. This will mean that as long as your details are up to date in the register, and we have your correct email address, you will be able to renew your license by responding to an email and filling out a simple online declaration. You won’t need to login to the EW portal using RealMe if you take advantage of this simplified renewal process.

Around early April 2019, we will send you specific details by email on how long your June 2019 practicing licence will be, and the fees for this renewal.

The Board understands this means a period of initial change. The Board will support you through this transition.

The new renewal timing will help free up administrative resources to better serve the industry in the future, with more information on this being provided later this year.

You can visit the EWRB website for a full set of frequently asked questions regarding the renewal regime and how it applies to you.

In the meantime, make sure your contact details are up to date and then look out for your personalized email from the Board which will explain what you have to do to renew for the transition renewal round, and confirming your new month of renewal thereafter.

Thank you for your patience during this process."

We suggest that  all NZ Electrical Workers subscribe to the EWRB website.
